  • Notes  Married:
    • Mary Ann Moore's first husband, William Henry Claxton, Sr., died in 1897. (Source: Well documented murder.) In 1909 she married Henry Clay Tye. (Source: Tennessee marriage license.) Tye's first wife, Elizabeth (Bishop) Tye, died in 1904. (Source: Gravestone)

Mary Ann is listed as having born 9 children in the 1900 Census, and 10 children in the 1910 Census.

In the 1910 Census, the Henry Clay Tye household includes Henry and his wife, Mary Ann, 4 of Henry's sons who are +10 years of age from his first marriage, Henry's son Henry L. Tye who is 4 years old. Living next door are 2 Claxton children +10 years of age from Mary Ann's first marriage who are listed as Henry's step-children, and Dewey Claxton, age 7, also listed as Henry's step-son.

Dewey Claxton's mother is assumed to be Mary Ann (Moore) Claxton because he would be her 10th known child per the 1910 Census. His father is unknown because Mary Ann's first husband was dead. It is doubtful that Henry C. Tye was the father, as 2 years later Tye had Henry L. Tye out of wedlock and gave him his surname, and Dewey had his mother's married surname.

Henry L. Tye's mother is unknown because (1) his birth date of 12 July 1905 on his delayed birth certificate is in agreement with his age in the 1910 Census, (2) Elizabeth (Bishop) Tye died in 1904, and (3) Mary Ann (Moore) Claxton Tye's 10 children per the 1910 Census are known.
