1791 - Buncombe County was formed from portions of Burke County and Rutherford County, in North Carolina, USA.

1793 - The town of Morristown was established and became the county seat of Buncombe County.

1797 - Morristown was renamed Ashville and incorporated.

1808 - Haywood County formed from a portion of Buncombe County.

1833 - Yancey County formed from portions of Buncombe County and Burke County.

1838 - Henderson County formed from a portion of Buncombe County.

1849 - Buncombe County received land from Yancey County.

1851 - Madison County formed from portions of Buncombe County and Yancey County.

1925 - Buncombe County received land from McDowell County, creating Buncombe County's present day boundries.
