1821 - Rockcastle County received land from Madison County.

1826 - Laurel County formed from portions of Rockcastle County, Whitley County, Clay County and Knox County.

1858 - Jackson County formed from portions of Rockcastle County, Owsley County and Madison County.

1861 - Rockcastle County received land from Jackson County, creating Rockcastle County's present day boundries.
