Notes:
1750 - Cumberland County was formed from Lancaster County in the Pennsylvania Colony, UK.

1751 - Cumberland County exchanged land with York County. Carlisle was established and became the county seat of Cumberland County.

1752 - Berks County formed from portions of Cumberland County, Lancaster County, Philadelphia County and unincorporated areas.

1771 - Bedford County formed from a portion of Cumberland County.

1772 - Northumberland County formed from portions of Cumberland County, Bedford County, Lancaster County, Berks County, Northampton County and unincorporated areas.

1776 - On 4 July, the Declaration of Independence of the 13 colonies as the United States of America, was adopted by the Second Continental Congress.

1778 - On 5 March, Pennsylvania was the 8th state to ratify the Articles of Confederation of the United States of America.

1779 - Bedford County received land from Cumberland County and Northumberland County.

1784 - Franklin County formed from a portion of Cumberland County.

1787 - On 12 December, Pennsylvania became the 2nd state to ratify the Constitution of the United States of America.

1789 - Mifflin County formed from portions of Cumberland County and Northumberland County.

1820 - Perry County formed from a portion of Cumberland County, creating Cumberland County's present day boundries.
