1838 - Henderson County was formed from a portion of Buncombe County, North Carolina, USA.

1841 - Hendersonville was founded as the county seat of Henderson County.

1844 - Henderson County received land from Rutherford County.

1847 - Polk County formed from portions of Henderson County and Rutherford County.

1848 - Polk County was abolished and its land was returned to Henderson County and Rutherford County.

1855 - Polk County formed from portions of Henderson County and Rutherford County.

1861 - Transylvania County formed from portions of Henderson County and Jackson County, creating Henderson County's present day boundries.
