Notes:
1803 - The United States purchased the Louisiana Territory from France, which included present day Missouri.

1805 - The Missouri Territory was established and 5 districts were formed: Cape Girardeau, New Madrid, St. Charles, St. Louis and St. Genevieve.

1812 - After Louisiana became a state, the remaining territory of the Louisiana Purchase was renamed the Missouri Territory, and the 5 original districts in the Missouri Territory became counties.

1815 - The town of Birdstown was established in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri Territory, USA.

1819 - Birdstown was renamed Jackson.

1821 - On 10 August, Missouri became the 24th state in the United States of America.
