1781 - Los Angeles was formed by the Spanish in Alta California, New Spain.

1821 - Mexico achieved independence from Spain, and Alta California became a territory of Mexico.

1848 - At the end of the Mexican-American War, the United States acquired northern Mexico, including present day California.

1850 - On 9 September, California became the 31st state in the United States of America, and Los Angeles County was formed as one of the original counties. The City of Los Angeles became the county seat for Los Angeles County.
