1791 - Newport was first setteled. It became a town in 1795 and was incorporated as a city in 1834. It was the county seat of Campbell County from 1797 to 1840.

1795 - Campbell County was formed from portions of Harrison County, Mason County and Scott County, in Kentucky, USA.

1797 - Bracken County formed from portions of Campbell County and Mason County.

1799 - Pendleton County formed from portions of Campbell County and Bracken County, and Boone County formed from Campbell County.

1840 - Kenton County formed from a portion of Campbell County, creating Campbell County's present day boundries.
