Notes:
1803 - The United States purchased the Louisiana Territory from France.

1812 - After Louisiana became a state, the remaining territory of the Louisiana Purchase was renamed the Missouri Territory

1819 - The Territory of Arkansas, present day Arkansas and most of Oklahoma, was organized from the Missouri Territory.

1828 - The majority of present day Oklahoma was separated from the Territory of Arkansas into an unorganized area.

1828 - The eastern portion of present day Oklahoma was separated from the Territory of Arkansas into an unorganized area.

1890 - The Oklahoma Territory was created, including the western portion of present day Oklahoma. The eastern portion of present day Oklahoma was referred to as Indian Territory until Oklahoma became a state.

1907 - On 16 November, Oklahoma became the 46th state in the United States of America.
