1819 - Owen County was formed from portions of Franklin County, Gallatin County, Pendleton County and Scott County, in Kentucky, USA.

1820 - Franklin County received land from both Owen County and Shelby County.

1821 - Owen County received land from Gallatin County.

1822 - The town of Owenton was founded and incorporated in 1828. It is the county seat of Owen County.

1828 - Owen County received land from Gallatin County.

1876 - Grant County received land from Owen County, creating Owen County's present day boundries.
