1843 - Allen County formed from a portion of Holt County, MO, USA.

1845 - Allen County was renamed Atchison County.

1849 - The state border between Missouri and Iowa established, reducing the northern area of Atchison County, MO.

1851 - Rock Port was established, and became the county seat for Atchison County.

1860 - Atchison County received land from Nodaway County.

1861 - Nodaway County received land from Atchison County, creating Atchison County's present day boundries.
