1826 - Laurel County formed from portions of Rockcastle County, Clay County, Knox County and Whitley County.

1858 - Jackson County formed from portions of Rockcastle County, Madison County and Owsley County.

1861 - Rockcastle County received land from Jackson County, creating Rockcastle County's present day boundries.
