1663 - A charter was issued to eight English noblemen for the Province of Carolina, England.

1707 - On 1 May, England became a part of the UK.

1712 - The Province of Carolina was split into the Province of North Carolina and the Province of South Carolina.

1776 - On 26 March, South Carolina created a state constitution.

1776 - On 4 July, the Declaration of Independence of the 13 colonies as the United States of America, was adopted by the Second Continental Congress.

1778 - On 5 February, South Carolina was the 2nd state to ratify the Articles of Confederation of the United States of America.

1788 - On 23 May, South Carolina became the 8th state to ratify the Constitution of the United States of America.
