Notes:
1817 - On 3 March, the Alabama Territory was established from the eastern half of the Mississippi Territory.

1818 - Franklin County was formed from unorganized land in the Alabama Territory, USA.

1819 - On 14 December, Alabama became the 22nd state in the United States of America.

1820 - The town of Ococoposa was incorporated in Franklin County.

1821 - Ococoposa was renamed Big Spring.

1822 - Big Spring was renamed Tuscumbia.

1867 - Colbert County was formed from a portion of Franklin County in Alabama, USA, and Tuscumbia became the county seat for Colbert County. Colbert County was abolished this same year.

1870 - Colbert County was re-established from a portion of Franklin County in Alabama, USA, and Tuscumbia was again the county seat.

1895 - Colbert County received land from Lawrence County, creating Colbert County's present day boundries.
