1733 - The Province of Georgia was chartered by the UK.

1776 - On 4 July, the Declaration of Independence of the 13 colonies as the United States of America, was adopted by the Second Continental Congress.

1777 - In February, Georgia created its state constitution. Also, Wilkes County was formed from unincorporated land in Georgia, USA.

1778 - On 26 February, Georgia was the 6th state to ratify the Articles of Confederation of the United States of America.

1788 - On 2 January, Georgia ratified the Constitution and became the 4th state in the United States of America.

1790 - Elbert County formed from a portion of Wilkes County.

1793 - Oglethrope County and Warren County were both formed from a portion of Wilkes County.

1796 - Lincoln County formed from a portion of Wilkes County.

1825 - Taliaferro County formed from portions of Wilkes County, Green County, Hancock County, Oglethrope County and Warren County, creating Wilkes County's present day boundries.
