1820 - Grant County was formed from a portion of Pendleton County, Kentucky, USA. Williamstown was founded as the county seat of Grant County, and was incorporated in 1825.

1827 - Grant County received land from Harrison County.

1852 - Grant County received land from Kenton County.

1867 - Gallatin County received land from Grant County.

1868 - Grant County received land from Gallatin County.

1870 - Grant County received land from Boone County.

1876 - Grant County received land from Owen County, creating Grant County's present day boundries.
